"This is a very unique song to me, I so love her new style but still a huge fan of her old stuff. "Although BEST FICTION released an year earlier, it's been year's since her previous actual studio album. Studio albums from Namie usually recieve more hype than BEST albums for it's content. Past > Future embarks into a new sound and away from her past with new lyric masters and a different direction in production. Strangely, one single was produced for physical release "Wild / Dr." which hit #1 with warranted success. Following months later, several commercials and new songs promoted album singles.
When I purchased my copy, it's an entirely a new experience from Amuro. Very brand new, future sound. "Fast Car" is deadly catchy, and "My Love" is a very simple but great song that most Amuro listeners would like. "Copy That" sounds like an extract of the 60s70s80s single concept, kind of wierd it's on this album. "Dr." and "Defend Love" goes together well and probably could have been coupled as a single, a very unique song from Amuro.
Probably the most straight foward Amuro stuff besides "My Love" was her single "WILD", catchy tune...some people think it'll make a great cheerleading song. It also references Janet Jackson's "Feedback" single.
Overall, I feel there is a bit of the past and future as this title of the album justifies. I'm not sure how many people would take the tracklisting and comes off probably a trendy album from the queen of pop, Namie Amuro. AMG (All Music Guide) also honors her as a Madonna of Japan, in addition to the queen of pop.
I also believe the delievery of most of these songs lack where her voice could have been carried more powerfully rather than subdued with more instrumentals. I'm led to believe the concept of a Past > Future tour surfaced first, before the actual music.
Still a nice album. But this transition didn't work for me.
